What Situation / Connection Farmilliar / Revolution

Awesome Techno Dubstep
Swag Record of the week.
The Revolution EP is a collection of deep, progressive tech – dripping with soul. If you could record the sound of sunrise after a rave in the Mojave desert, this is no doubt how it would sound … from the intricate programming and euphorics of Connection, to the post-dubstep minimal tension of Farmilliar, Ion Driver’s music is broad, unique and very addictive. The final track, Revolution, is a true DJ weapon for the discerning box … abstract percussion and psychedelic grooves with drops big enough to make the Grand Canyon shiver. The Dexorcist provides a seriously upfront remix, darkening the mood and mechanising the drums to give birth to a relentless dancefloor beast. Although the 12” contains the vinyl-only What Situation (to reward
you dedicated wax junkies), the digital release follows with a minimal
reworking from label boss Lifecycle (London Breakz, Electrofly,
Looq), who will return alongside Full Spectrum in early 2010 with RIC007.

Marooned / Melodiac / Concrete Safari

Awesome Track . Swag track of the week. Filth !

John Tejada was marooned in Los Angeles in the summer of 82. A strange place to grow up coming from Vienna Austria. Even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. In a land of glowsticks and desert parties, Tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. Fast forward to 2007 when Detroit area native Josh Humphrey was also marooned in Los Angeles. It didn’t take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. The result is “Marooned,” Palette’s newest collaboration between John Tejada and Josh Humphrey. The trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos’ work. The title track, “Marooned,” joins Humphrey’s modular synth work with Tejada’s beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. “Melodiac” continues from there with a lighter mood, with Humphrey’s modular melodies and Tejada’s signature stabs and rhythms. Rounding out the three is “Concrete Safari,” which largely focuses on Humphrey’s modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. Humphrey’s knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. He currently works with LA based Big City Music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. It is also a place Tejada frequents to test most of his gear

Still Dreaming

Excellent 12" from Freerange. All 3 tracks are recommended.
Andre Lodemann may be a new name to some but with his incredible recent releases on Best Works, Room with A View and Simple, he's becoming an influential player on the scene.

His exciting Freerange debut brings us 2 original tracks with a remix from one of our favourite German abstract house mavericks Soulphiction.

Rhapsodies

Nico Purman, our Argentinean (soon to be Berlin based) drumline captain and all around groove slinger is back for his third instalment on the marching band in the sky that we call our Vakant home.Purman’s sound continues to evolve, covering truly large distances with every release. Since his robostrobe inspired earlier Vakant works Tuesday EP (VA017) and Euphrasia EP (VA025), Nico drops 3 large-and-very-much-in-charge space jazz masterpieces that he fermented in what sounds like a midnineties New York house basement. First up is ‘Why What’ where Nico sets the free-flowing rhapsodic mood that covers so much ground with one track. Starting in what sounds like Tenaglia’s beloved Chelsea, the track slowly moves uptown landing at the Blue Note where Rollins, Monk, and Roach sit in on the session. ‘Funk Forest’ follows with more pep and less mood. Upbeat and popping percussion blend with Rhodes while a diva whispers in your ear until late seventies Hancock shows up with his synth and brings the hands way up. ‘Chamomile’ finishes the EP off in style. Moody while maintaining the jazz feel, “Chamomile” peaks with futuro baritone sax and piano in unison. Smooth and steady all the way.

Broken

Following the massive Johnny D remixes of ‘Sliding Away’, which has proven to be one of the biggest tracks of the year so far, and the excellent remixes of ‘Falling’ by James Priestley & Dan Berkson and Will Saul & Tam Cooper. The underground house sound of 2009 are well represented on this remix single with current favourites Makam and Ekkohaus and rising stars Uner & Coyu. The ‘Falling’ album was Album Of The Month in both DJ and IDJ, and received excellent reviews from Mixmag, Clash and the BBC website. The band are currently touring Europe and have recently supported Simian Mobile Disco at The Forum in London. Makam is one of the most in demand house producers with his hits ‘Hague Soul’ and ‘New York City G’ being huge sellers, making him one of the most in demand producers in Europe. He records for Sushitech and Soweso. Ekkohuas follows up his 2020 debut EP with a wicked remix in his trademark deep and rolling house style. He’s just released singles for Morris Audio, Cargo Edition and Liebe Detail.

Music designed for the underground! Aaron Ross & Matthew Bandy have landed themselves once again on the Seasons Recordings imprint and we could not be more excited to have them both back working on this one together! Last year Bandy got hitched and moved from the quite city of Denver to the thriving city of London to mix things up and ending up hooking up with Mr. Ross and the rest is magic! This is the first project these two have worked on together and lets hope for more in the future. This record was designed for the underground!!
